5000 Poppies

I recently went along to a felt poppy making class at Open Drawer. The class took place as part of the '5000 Poppies' initiative.

'5000 Poppies' is a project started by some Melbourne crafters, who wanted to create 5000 handmade poppies, in order to 'plant' a poppy field to commemorate the ANZAC Centenary in 2015, marking 100 years since Australia's involvement in the First World War. But since it first started, '5000 Poppies' has grown like wildfire and they now have over 15,000 poppies - crocheted, knitted, felted, lacework, you name it!

The new aim is to 'plant' a field of 25,000 handmade poppies in Federation Square on ANZAC Day in 2015. Anyone can submit their own poppies and you can find out how to get involved here

25,000 of these is sure going to be a sight to behold!
